    AIDS

AIDS is a serious disease that has been plaguing America since 1983. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, it is the final stage of the virus HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).[1] There are actually two types of HIV 1, which is most common and is in most parts of the world, and there is HIV 2, which is mostly in Africa. Each year there are over 40,000 new infections. It can be transmitted through sexual activity, contact with infected blood, or from breast feeding. AIDS is most common in homosexuals and bisexuals, but is now also common with anyone.

AIDS made a very large impact on our country because of the many lives that were lost. It is estimated that  597,499 people have died from AIDS in the U.S. since it all started in 1981.[2] Throughout the years there have been many fundraisers to raise money to hep combat AIDS, such as the AIDS Walk San Francisco, which raised $4.5 million, a world record.[3] Unfortunately, there is still no cure to AIDS but if the country works together we might be able to find one.

This topic was very interesting because of how many people are dead because of this terrible disease. This is also very sad because of the death tool. By the way, how many people were diagnosed? This was a great wiki!

Before reading this article I had some prior knowledge of what AIDS was and of how it kills many people. I think this is a very significant topic because of the fact that AIDS has no cure and how people are diagnosed with it every year but are unable to be treated. AIDS is a disease that will always be very serious until, hopefully, we are able to find some cure to it. I also think that it is great that people are working hard at raising money for it working hard to find a cure. What is the difference between HIV 1 and HIV 2? This was a great article that I learned a lot from.
