Background
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born in London in 1926. In 1936 her father King George 6 became the king of England. She spent her childhood in the Windsor castle. At the time that her father became king she was ten and became the next heir to the throne after her father. in 1947she married prince mountbatten who was prince of Greece and Denmark. On February sixth 1952 her father king george the sixth died at age 56 from a failure to recover from a lung operation. So on June 2nd 1953 Elizabeth became Queen of England at age 27.
Signifigance
There are many signifigances of Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor becoming the queen of England. One signifigance of her becoming queen is that she has made vast changes in the lives of the people who live in the U.K. She also gave independence to about 40 british colonies and mandate territories from the late 1940's to the early 1980's. Also in 1960 the U.K. joined the European Free Trade Assosiation, they also joined the European Economic Community and in 1993 they joined the European union.

I think this was a very important event for England because there is a new queen. Especially since she changed so many peoples lives.

While it's sad that her father passed away, she was a very influential woman and it was good she became queen. I think she really helped England develop and grow well throughout her reign.
