History

Georgi Maximmilianovich Malenkov was the man who took power after Joesph Stalin died, the previous leader of the Soviet Union. He took power on March 15th, 1953. Joesph Stalin had many duties in order to run the Soviet Union, so Malenkov had to take those over. The jobs that he had to take over were, The Premier of the Soviet Union[1], The Senior Party Secretary, the Council of Ministers[2], the Chairmanship of the Secretariat. The Secretariat of Presidium, he was also elected to the Committee of Presidium of Communist[3], and finally he became the Chief of the Soviet Secret Police[4]. The reason that he had to take over these positions was that he was one of the closest collaborator with Stalin, almost like Stalin's right-hand man.

Significance

The main reason that this shocked the world was that Stalin was dead, but the Soviet Union and Communism were far from over because of Malenkov taking over the postion of Stalin. Also this meant that the people who were the followers of Joesph Stalin were shocked by this event because their leader was dead. The good thing for the people of the Soviet Union was that the Union could continue for another 35 years with the help of Malenkov taking over. For the USA, this was a bad situation because with Malenkov, we would still be engaged in the Cold War for the next 3 decades. The Soviets would still try to be the most powerful country, even though their first leader had died. With this, the Soviets would be still as powerful with Malenkov, as they were with Stalin, so they would still be able to run the country the same way because Malenkov knew Stalin very well and could copy his ways of ruling and running the Soviet Union. That is the significance of Malenkov coming into power and leading the Soviet Union after Joesph Stalin died.

I found it interesting how the Soviet Union held together after Stalin died. It is interesting how he managed to be as popular as Stalin was. I like how we are told how many positions Malenkov took over.

It is interesting that he was able to replace the amazing Stalin with ease.
