Background
Psycho is a very famous 1960 horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock had directed a TV show called "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". Psycho was one of the first of very many he has directed. Others include "The Birds" and "Marnie". His idea of the shower scene has been used in many other films after it was shown in Psycho. In the shower scene there is a person taking a shower and a murderer comes in and stabs the person. It makes you feel scared to take a shower now. Alfred Hitchcock exclaimed that Henri-Georges Clouzet's "Les Diaboliques" inspired him. Hithcock financed the movie by himself which was a very small amount of $800,000. All of the profits would go to him.

Importance and Signifigance
There is much importance for this film such as the time of release. The time of release was very important because of all the military problems. Psycho was released two years before the Vietnam War. Also, it was released after the Korean War. In addition, the U.S. is having complications Cuba. On the other hand, it was one of the most scary and one of the best horror movies of all time. Hitchcock is also one of the most well known horror movie directers ever. The famous shower scene is very important also because it was used by many other directers in other horror films. After some people saw the shower scene they had problems with it. Hitchcock was about to re-film it so it was less scary and inappropriate but the Revue Studios where it had benn filmed wouldn't do it. It was so important to Hitchcock for everyone to be satisfied and happy with Psycho so he had a couple rules. He didn't let any previews get out so people could know what was coming. Also, he didn't let any people into the cinema after the film had started. These rules helped the profits of the movie. Knowone knew what the movie was going to be about and all they knew was that Alfred Hitchcock directed it so they wanted to go see it. In the cinemas there were very long lines, showings getting sold out every time, and three mile bach ups at drive ins. As you can see by now Psycho was a very big part of the 1960's and so on.

I've never seen this movie, but my friend did and afterward she told be all about it. Even without seeing the movie I was so scared everytime I took a shower. Why did those rules help to raise the profits?

I have seen this movie and was reccomended to see it because of the scary bathroom scene. This scene is supposed to be scary but now what happens in now aday movies it is nothing. It is cool to see how the movues have changed based on how scary they are. Did the author get payed when other movies used his scene?

no, because back in the 60's they didn't really care about other movies and who stole their ideas. They opnly cared about their own movie.

I've seen this movie 12 times and each time I scream really loudly during the shower scene. And during each part where they enter the mother's house. This is such a creepy movie. I really wanted this topic though because while it is creepy, I do love this movie. Your article was very well written. I liked visiting the hyperlinks about Alfred Hitchcock. I didn't know that much about him. Overall, this was a great piece of work!!!

I love Alfred Hitchcock and his work. I found it intresting and some what smart that Hitchcock wouldn't let previews come out.
But how did people find out the movie "Psycho" was coming out?
