What He Has Done
Zhou Enlai served as the Foreign Mister of China from 1949-1958. He was a follower of the Communist party in China. Arguing for peaceful coexistence with the West, he took part in the 1954 Geneva Conference and helped plan President Nixon's visit to China. He took part in the "Long March". The "Long March" was led by Mao Zedong (who Enlai also followed). It was 6,000 miles across China in 1934-35. Zhou joined Mao's cause in 1931. Mao was the leader of the Chinese Communist Party. He was an influential person to Enlai. He played a big role in negotiating settlements of issues arising from Polish and Hungarian conflicts with the Soviet Union in 1957. He was very popilar during "The Great Leap Forward" of 1958. He was mostly for the re-establishment of contacts with the West when Nixon was in the White House. His leadership was somewhat short and influential but he also caused lots of damage.
