James Dean

Page history last edited by James Dean 13 years, 6 months ago

James Byron Dean was born on February 8th, 1931 in the small town of Marion, Indiana. His family had mostly been made up of farmers, including his father, but he chose to be a dental technician, and the Dean family moved to Santa Monica, California. His mother Mildred Dean, died when James was only nine. After his mothers death, James' father sent James to his Aunt and Uncles house in Fairmount, Indiana. During school, he entered in many electives like forensics and drama. In 1949 at the age of 18, he moved in with his dad and step mom.  After moving to California to pursue a degree in pre-law, he thought about starting to act. He asked his father for financial help, but he declined, and after James switched his major to acting, his father kicked him out. He started working jobs that got him nowhere. Then he saved enough money to go to new york to pursue his acting dream. He applied for a dance class, and the owner accepted him to come for little to no cost. He landed acting jobs on shows like Kraft Theater and Robert Montgomery Presents. For his first major movie, he appeared in East of Eden, as Cal Trask. He started showing his skills as a truly great actor. He appeared in the movie

"Rebel Without A Cause"

and he was then truly noted as one of the best Actor's. He started spending his large sums of money by racing in a newly bought 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, painted in silver with the numbers "130" on the front.

He raced very much, and he had won several events until he was driving on route 46, when a Ford Tudor crossed his lane, the cars crashed, and the wreckage was terrible.

James lived through the crash, but he died after at the poor, young age of only 24. They made a memorial near where the crash was, and they planted a "Tree of Heaven" beside the memorial.

I thought it was interesting that his father didn't give him money for acting and then kicked him out of the house. How badly was James injured after his car crash?
