Jewish immigration was limited by the British because of the Nazis killing 6 million European Jews.  1947, the UN General Assembly agreed to divide Palestine into 2 states, the Arab state , and the Jewish state.  Then Placed Jerusalem under international control.  the Jews of Palestine accepted, but the Arabs did not.  Fighting started immediately.  Border clashes happened frequently in the early 1950's between Arab and Israel troops.  The six day war started in May 1967, when the UN removed their peacekeeping force.  President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced the closing of the strait of Tiran to Israel ships.  which blocked the Israeli port of Elat.  Israel launched a surprise air strike against Egypt because they feared that Arabs would soon attack on June 5th 1967.  Immediately joining the fighting was Syria, Jordan, and Iraq because they had signed defense agreements with Egypt.

the event that took place in 1948 is a historical event because they have been fighting sense then and it has changed the world.
