    BACKROUND:

The first time we heard the name Wheel of Fortune on television it was not the Wheel of Fortune we all loved today. It started in October 1952, and ran for about a year. To be able to play you had to have done a good deed. A wheel was spun with amounts going from 30 to 1,000.  There also was a riddle or a name of something. So Whatever the wheel landed on that was what you played for. You had to get the questions right to get the money the wheel landed on. The next time we saw  Wheel of Fortune was in 1975 The host was Chuck Wooley and his co-host Susan Stafford. However after a arugument with Chuck's and Susan's contracts they left the show. They were in need of a 2 more host, so they found Pat Sajak and Vanna White. The show has been running since January 19, 1976 and running since then for a hour long on NBC. The show had many rivals such as Blank Check and Winning streak.  Today Wheel of Fortune gets over 40 million views. Also today it is played different they have amounts ranging from zero and 1 million with vacations and cars. They play lay out is still the same just the prizes got bigger. [1]

Wheel of Fortune today is still very popular. Back then we didn't have much entertainment on the television and Wheel of Fortune was the first thing that got good views. It also gave us a outlook of the future (today). Today we have many shows such as Glee, American Idol and Deal or No Deal. Wheel of Fortune started television and entertainment for us. We hope it will be with us for many years to come.
